Saturday was a great day for the Simmons boys!!!
I've never felt like I was a very good "boy momma". I love to go to gymnastics and dance and all the little girly events, but never really got into "boy" things. Today, I've decided that it wasn't me that was not into boy things but my boys weren't into anything, until now.
Our day was very busy, as is everyday when you have 6 children. Toby had to be at the school at 9:00 am this morning. It's Saturday for crying out loud. This marching band stuff is all consuming. Raymond took Toby to school then came home to help me get everyone dressed and ready to go.
Next up on the agenda was Daniel's tee-ball pictures. They were taking individual and team pics at a field on one side of town at 10:45. He looks soooo cute in his uniform. His team is the rangers. They all have the hats, jerseys and pants that are way too big and socks that go all the way up to his underwear. I can't wait to see the pictures.
I don't know who did the scheduling, but they didn't consult with a mommy. Pictures were at 10:45 at one field and our game was at 12:00 at a field across town. You know they were not on time with the pictures, either. How could they be? With team after team of little bitty boys. Hurry, it is!! I don't know why I ever expect anything different!!
We made it to the tee ball game and Daniel did GREAT!!!! He was first in the batting order. He hit the ball and ran sooooo "cheetah fast". Then he played shortstop for the first two innings and pitcher the last inning. He did a great job fielding the ball and throwing it to first base. This level of tee ball is all about learning the game. They don't keep score, as no one has to leave the base, even if they are out. Everyone gets to bat each inning, and the last batter always gets a home run. It is definitely entertaining.
Daniel was awarded the game ball for the game because of his excellent "alligator hands". They teach them to put their gloves on the ground and cover the ball with the other hand. This looks like an alligator mouth. Daniel loves that kind of analogy. He was so proud of that ball. We wrote the date and his name and team name on the ball so he can always remember.
Hurry Hurry Hurry. Toby's band performed at 1:30 at a field not too far away. We just made it. We had just settled into our chairs when they came out onto the field. They looked so good. They received two 1's and a 2 with an overall 1 for their performance. Go Cy Ranch Mustang Band.
I cannot even begin to express how proud I am of Toby and his band. Toby has tried lots of different activities, baseball, soccer, gymnastics, karate, swimming and now band. He has not found anything that he is good at AND enjoys, until now. Even last year, he tried DAILY to quit band. We almost didn't make him do band this year. I'm SOOOO GLAD we convinced him to go ahead and stick it out one more year. It will count as his fine arts credit AND his PE credit, so he signed up. NOW, he is talking about next year and his junior year and even maybe college band. YEAH!!!! I'm so glad he has something to be part of that he can love. It gives him ownership in his high school years.
Finally, at 2pm, we went to lunch. We were hungry by now. We decided to go with Nana and Pop to a restaurant near our house. Everyone got settled and ordered. Ahhhhh, a relaxing meal with the family. We were still waiting for Toby to call and tell us they were done unloading and changing, and whatever else they have to do after a performance. But the rest of the family was together and calm. THEN...
TMI WARNING: sensitive stomachs may not want to continue.
Rebekah apparently had an upset stomach. Raymond went to the car to change her diaper and pants. Luckily, I had put some weather appropriate extra clothes in the bag before leaving the house. They came back to the table and as the food arrived, it happened AGAIN. This time, Rebekah is not the only one that needed new clothes. She was sitting in Raymond's lap when it happened. Unfortunately, Raymond had used the last diaper when he changed her the first time and there were no other clothes in the bag.
He decided to go home and clean them up. We stayed to eat lunch while he ran home. That trip took way longer than anyone planned. He said he changed about 4 diapers at home before coming back. Poor Bekah. I had his lunch packed neatly in a to go box and we waited for his return.
Meanwhile, guess who needs to be picked up. Toby. That's right. Nana and Pop to the rescue. They took Sarah and Daniel and went to get him. Hannah, Leah Beth and I waited at the restaurant to be picked up. Simmons chaos. Gotta love it.
Later, Saturday night, my sweet boys were both cuddled up next to me on the couch. I love my boys. I'm sooooo proud of my boys. Toby looked over at me and thanked me for not letting him quit band. Yeah!!! Daniel thanked me for signing him up for baseball. Yeah!!! It was a busy day but a great day. Go boys!!!
